Montana Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Practice Test

After experiencing a tire blowout, gripping the steering wheel firmly and allowing the vehicle to slow down is the appropriate action to take. This response helps maintain control of the vehicle, as a blowout can cause the vehicle to pull to one side. By holding the steering wheel firmly, the driver can steer the vehicle straight and manage it safely. Allowing the vehicle to slow down naturally is essential because sudden maneuvers, such as accelerating or turning sharply, can lead to loss of control and potentially result in an accident.

The focus should be on bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop without panic, avoiding sudden actions that could exacerbate the situation. Slowing down gradually helps reduce the risk of tipping over or skidding, especially if the blowout occurs on a large vehicle. Ensuring that the vehicle comes to a safe stop allows the driver to assess the situation and take further action, such as pulling over safely or making necessary repairs.
